Profile Information

Hometown:
Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada
About Me:
Thirty-three year old professional fantasy artist and author, two fleshy children, three furry ones. I grew up overseas, so the Middle East has had a strong cultural impact on my design work, and my fantasy work comes from an overactive imagination. :)

I suppose I should mention that I'm what I hear is called an "Outsider Artist". I've never had formal training in anything but tattooing, and I quit doing that back in '93. I started out doing portrait work and eventually got tired of doing what could photographers do a heck of a lot quicker. ;) I chose to start working on giving the gift of my vivid imagination to the world. I'm trying to branch out more into traditional figurative work and fewer wings so I'm not quite so stranded in the fantasy niche.

I'd really like to dip my toes into the competitive, shark infested waters of illustration -- but being the "outsider" that I am, I'm having to figure out the ins and outs by trial and error rather than a BA in the Arts. (I suppose that means I'm working on my PhD in BS. *snicker*)

It's a pleasure to have found this group and I look forward to seeing what comes of it.

Favorite Artists:
Waterhouse, Royo, Vallejo, etc. I love fantasy work, but to be honest, my tastes vary. I enjoy so many different forms and subject matters that I could never truly point to anything without fears of excluding something far more fascinating that I hadn't noticed yet. I have seen the most bizarre looking iron scrap pieces tied in the strangest knots, that appear to have no aesthetic value -- but still managed to keep me interested long enough to look for the beginning and end. If it keeps your interest long enough, and leaves you asking questions or filled with a new emotion, I guess that's what art's all about, eh? :)
Media of Choice:
I work in a variety of mediums, but most often use the following: Pen and ink, watercolour pencils, watercolour paint, pyrography and fabric sculpture dolls. If you were to enter my studio however, you'd think I robbed the local arts supply store. I may not work often in other mediums, but I do on occasion dabble in acrylics, beading/jewelry, clothing design/fabric arts, plastics, sculpy, wired gem trees... the list is endless. Art isn't just my business, it's truly my life, as it is for most artists. Painting just isn't enough! :)
